On Saturday, May 15, 2024, Older Persons Hangout was organized at Ayegun Gbomi Area in Osogbo, Osun State. The event aimed to provide a platform for older persons in the community to socialize, engage in various activities, and receive essential health check-ups. The event was well attended, with designated 50 participants, youths, adults from the community, representatives of the Government from both Local and State, the local traditional Ruler Baale Moruf Taye Oyegbade / his Council and Health practitioners.
Activities:
The participants were fully engaged in different types of indoor games, including Ludo, Ayo, and Draughts. These games not only provided entertainment but also helped stimulate mental alertness and social interaction among the older individuals. Additionally, a popular local band supplied music for the participants to dance to, DJ giving music during lunch. They were later treated to evergreen music which they danced to which cumulated into a dance competition creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
Food:
The participants were well fed with a variety of delicious meals and refreshments. The organizers ensured that the elderly individuals were served with nutritious and balanced meals to cater to their dietary needs.
Health Check-ups:
Routine health check-ups were provided to the participants by a medical practitioner, an ophthalmologist, and six nurses. The medical team conducted general health screenings, blood screening, malaria tests, eye examinations, and blood pressure checks to ensure the well-being of the older persons. Any health concerns identified were promptly addressed, and necessary advice and referrals were provided.
Feedback and Recommendations:
The participants expressed their gratitude for the event and requested that the program be run at regular intervals. They highlighted the positive impact of the hangout on their well-being and social connections. The presence of representatives of the Government and the local traditional ruler was appreciated, and the participants felt valued and cared for during the event.

The Older Persons Hangout at Ayegun Gbomi Area, Osogbo, Osun State, was a highly rewarding and successful event.
The participants were actively engaged in various activities, enjoyed music and dancing, and received necessary health check-ups. The positive feedback and requests for future hangouts underscore the importance of such initiatives in promoting the well-being and social inclusion of elderly individuals in the community.
